coming from from fair oaks to 123. lanes are open. light volume on the beltway leaving annandale towards merrifield. kenilworth avenue looks great. no problems reported south of 50 headed out to pennsylvania avenue. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. on-timetraffic. virginia has joined a multistate effort to promote alternative fuel vehicles. governor bob mcdonnell announceed a partnership with two energy company to eventually make the fleet of state vehicles all alternative view. they are working with vehicle companies to lower the cost of alternative fuel vehicles. also new, maryland governor martineau malyea has plans to help prevent massive power outages in the state. according to the "washington post," he will release a report today that proposes a new surcharge. customers would pay an extra dollar or two a month so pepco and other companies have funding available to strengthen the grid. the hope is that crews could

complete self years of tree trimming in the next two years. a boil water alert is now in effect after a water main broke tuesday morning. the virginia department of health is advising all residents to boil their water for drinking and other uses until health officials determine the water is safe to drink. tests were conducted and the results should be available by tomorrow. the university of the district of columbia is struggling financially and facing an ann certain future and now it is looking to the district for help. fox 5 obtained a board of trustees report submitted to the d.c. council. it hasn't been released to the public just yet but it outlines a plan to get udc back on its feet including asking the district for $21 million. $10million will go to support its employee separation plan. the school has been criticized for having too many faculty numbers and not enough students. under the proposed plan, the university will increase its efforts to attract more students. you can see the full report on myfoxdc.com. three weeks of terror that
